70 Years Of The Scorpion

There’s still a fair old bit of sting left in the tail as Abarth celebrates its 70th birthday and releases several anniversary editions with the 595 being the star of the party. The refreshed line up for 2019 is headlined by the return of the ‘esseesse’ model, a 1.4 litre, 4 cylinder, 178bhp pocket rocket equipped with all sorts of performance goodies for you to sink your teeth in to.

Featuring the custom developed Record Monza exhaust system, Brembo brakes, a mechanical limited slip diff to better deliver power to the front wheels during the twisty bits and Sabalt racing style bucket seats, the top of the range model is certainly ticking all the right boxes for us petrol heads. You will also get a seven-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability and an onboard telemetry system so you know how many G’s you’ll pulling navigating the local multi-storey carpark. The system should also track you all the way to a top speed of 140mph which in a car no bigger than an oversized shoe box is quite a scary thought.

UK pricing for RHD models is £21,795 and you can even get a convertible version for an extra £2000. The issue here then lies with the Abarths competition when you stop and remember that you can swoop yourself a Fiesta ST 3 for £22,500 or you could go French and have some Va Va Voom with a special edition RS Clio for just over £23,000. That’s a tough fight to find yourself in the middle of.

To commemorate the brand’s anniversary even the entry level 595 and mid-range 595 Turismo will all feature exclusive 70 badging. Here’s to another 70 years of Scorpion. Wouldn’t that be an amaz-STING achievement…….

I’ll let myself out
